Criswell College

DIPLOMA IN BIBLICAL STUDIES

This 36 hour program of study leading to the Diploma in Biblical Studies is tailored for the ministerial student who is not necessarily a high school graduate. From its very foundation, The Criswell College has maintained a special interest in students who have not had opportunity for college or seminary training and those who have entered the ministry after reaching their mature years.

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS

AA Biblical Studies
The two-year program of study leading to the Associate of Arts Degree is designed primarily for the student desiring a strong biblical and theological foundation for his or her total education. Depending on one’s educational goals, the student has three concentrations from which to choose. The A.A. degree also meets the minimum requirements for appointment with certain mission agencies.

MASTER OF ARTS

MA Christian Leadership
The Master of Arts in Christian Leadership (M.A.C.L.) is designed to provide basic theological and ministry education for the persons who want to be better equipped for ministry, but who have little or no previous theological education. The program is intended primarily for lay persons, especially those who have limited time to attend graduate school. Further, the M.A.C.L. is designed to qualify a missionary candidate whose mission board requires a year of graduate theological education for appointment (e.g., those undertaking specialized assignments, such as in medicine or agriculture). While designed as a free-standing academic program, it may also be possible to transfer up to 50% of the coursework into an additional master’s degree program. M.A.C.L. applicants have the option of choosing from three specialized program tracks: 1) Spiritual Leadership; 2) Educational Leadership; or 3) Worship Leadership.

MA Ministry
The Master of Arts in Ministry affords the student who is preparing for pastoral ministry, but is only able to invest one year beyond undergraduate theological education, the opportunity to develop further a philosophy of ministry and to refine pastoral skills. Students may choose to proceed on to an M.Div. program with advanced standing or, with excellent grades, into certain Ph.D. programs. The Master of Arts Degree in Ministry provides the student who has had biblical and theological training on the baccalaureate level the opportunity to pursue scholarly and practical study in the field of pastoral studies.

MA Theology
Having completed the Master of Arts (M.A.) program of study, the graduate should be able to: serve with a deeper theological understanding, thereby enriching his/her overall ministry; teach on the secondary level in a Christian academy; enter an M.Div. with advanced standing, or certain Ph.D. programs, having a higher degree of competency in biblical and theological studies. The Master of Arts Degree in Theology provides the student who has had biblical and theological training on the baccalaureate level the opportunity to pursue scholarly study in the field of theology.
